Never Fear!
That frogged Pink Pomatomus is already re-knit and then some :) But thanks for all the sympathetic comments! Here's me thinking they were just cool photos of the project, since I knew I had to reknit (Jen, you were right, they were WAY to tight). Since those photos were taken & edited, I've ripped the entire thing out and re-started them on massive logs of sock needles -- 2.75mm!! They are HUGE after working on 2mm's for the past few pairs I've knit, but what a joy to fly through massive swaths of knitting in a short period of time. I'm now hoping that I can finish this one and the second one in time to gift them to someone this weekend, we shall have to see. A girl can dream right? Besides, I'll have a 6+ hour drive on friday to work on them...
Alas, this means I will be missing the upcoming Drunken Knitting Night on Friday, I'm sorry but I just can't help it! Taste of the Danforth is that same weekend and we just have to flee the neighbourhood before they build the stage in front of our front door and start wailing bad a-capella in Greek *shudder*. We made the mistake of staying in town the first year and it was about as close to hell as I can imagine. I'm still not sure which was worse: the constant, incessant crowd noise; the ear-splittingly-loud off-key and off-tempo music right on our doorstep; the clouds of meat smoke billowing in our window all day; or the stench late at night when they came to empty the Port-O-Potties. YUCK.
Ahem. And now for happy thoughts: Laura's birthday this past weekend was great fun, as we went out for Ethiopian food and then to the Caffe Volo for beer and mocking passersby (and passer's cars) afterwards.

Crash & Jo & the kids even made it down to the city, where the kids amazed us all by diving right in to an enormous platter of strange (to them) foods and polishing off the whole tray while the rest of us sat around groaning about how full we all were!
See what I mean? Ian is angry that he is unable to finish all food... SO. ANGRY. ;)
We were all squeezed around a table meant for fewer and so anyone unfortunate enough to be trapped on the bench side was forced to either hold it or crawl underneath it.
(This one is best viewed LARGE folks so click the link for the very large version)
We ended the meal with an Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony which involved very tiny cups of strong, thick coffee.
My favourite element of the evening was this fur quilt. It was plastered to the cieling above us all like some kind of malevolent furry flying saucer. I loved it immediately!

Malevolent furry quilt - what's not to love?!
Yikes - get out, get out, get out - what, you're still there?? What if you get trapped??
What?? You want to skip the loud greek music? You must have enjoyed when Greece won the world cup the other year. We must live in the same neighbourhood. I'm going down to the Danforth for a cheap dinner.
Ya know, I've been there dozens of times and never noticed the malevolent furry flying saucer before. Very odd.
It was very fun, and I'm really glad you guys made it out.
Also, Stew's birthday is tomorrow, and I'm thinking of taking him to Baldwin St. for lunch. Are you in?
why is it that theboy and i look normal (we call ourselves the blondies) and the redheads look odd? yes yes we are very proud to have finished off the food ! yum!
Hee hee - enjoyed the blurb on YH about your P sock and your deadline. :)
That is a great flying saucer.
We will have to abandon our place for a weekend soon. We like near a raceway and the big yearly 500mile race is coming up. Much as I love big V8s, spending most of the weekend with them roaring around a track only a km away is a bit much.
Your great picture on Yarn Harlot's post just makes me smile, and laugh out loud at your knitting plan.
I remembered where I heard about the used bookstore that's opening on bloor, and the crazy old hungarian lady who used to own the building. I found it on a link from rampantbicycle.com/blog, though I can no long find it. sadness. I walked past it today and it is painted a bright light blue, very promising. I hope Pomotomus is going well!
