Knitting for a Living

Ok so, maybe I'm not quite ready to quit my day job*. But I am proud to announce that I have a couple of really cool projects on the go right now that are headed in the right direction, especially since my *actual* day job is winding down over the next couple months. So I'll probably be plugging these in all my blog posts from now on, but I wanted to put them out here first in a giant orgy of self promotion.

Robyn's Nest April Sock Club

I am extremely proud of the pattern I did for the upcoming April edition of Robyn's monthly sock club. It sets off the gorgeous, limited-edition handpainted yarn included in the kit perfectly, which isn't always that easy. And I have to say, the colourway itself, by Zen Yarn Garden, is a work of art and is just exactly what everyone needs for some fresh spring knitting! So if you're interested, go now and order -- I know she doesn't have that many left in stock and you have only a few weeks left to buy!

Improve Your Knitting Photography @ In the Loop

For everyone (local) who has ever admired my knitting photographs, now is your chance to come and learn some of my tricks on Sunday, April 6 from 2pm - 4pm at In the Loop Café. I will be co-teaching this 2-hour class with Jacquie, a gifted photographer and knitter, and we will be teaching some basic photography techniques specifically aimed at improving project photos for the blogging or ravelrizing knitter/crocheter. This class is designed for people with ordinary, inexpensive cameras, so don't let your lack of expensive equipment stop you from coming and learning how to take a better project photo! Before I hooked up with my current fancypants camera (that photo taken, incidentally, with the Canon as well) I shot everything on a little Canon point-and-shoot: check out this, this and this to see samples of my "before DSLR" knitting project pics!

What a great idea. Taking better photos of my knitting is something I always say I want to do.

Now to see if I have time to take the class.

Do I need a light box?
